Clock Hands Are Totally Overrated

Check out this cool ‘Equinox’-clock designed by Bram Knaapen…it trashes standard clock hands and replaces them with LED lights around the edges.  Nice.

Not All Shrinkage Is Bad. Trust Me.

LA artist Robert Therrien transforms people into Mini-Me’s with his GIANT versions of everyday household objects.  I can almost hear a teeny-tiny Lily Tomlin screaming “Concepcion!” at the top of her lungs while she’s trapped in her kitchen sink.

Didn’t get my Lily Tomlin reference?  Check out this clip from the 1981 film “The Incredible Shrinking Woman”.  If you did get it, enjoy!  (By the way, I don’t remember Concepcion being such a babe!)

I Lego NY

Designer Christopher Niemann doesn’t need 5000 legos and 50 hours of painstaking work to build his NYC-inspired creations.  The former New Yorker’s refreshingly simple vignettes were originally dreamed up using his son’s toys during a bleak winter in Berlin.  Whether it was homesickness or boredom that sparked Niemann’s creativity, there’s something undeniably charming about the images that fill up his book, “I Lego NY“.  Here are some of my favorites:

Papercuts Never Looked So Good…

Artist Peter Callesen gets excited when he sees a sheet of boring A4 paper…he uses his imagination and an X-acto knife to create stunningly detailed works of art.  Callesen says he’s “found a material which we are all able to relate to, and at the same time is non-loaded and neutral, and therefore easier to fill with different meanings.  The thin white paper gives the paper sculptures a frailty that underlines the tragic and romantic themes of the work.”  Here are some of my favorite pieces from Callesen’s ‘A4 Papercut’ collection:

-”Half Way Through” (2006)

-”Impenetrable Castle” (2005)

-”Snowballs” (2005)

-”Down the River” (2005)

-”Do Not Enter” (2006)

-”Little Erected Ruin” (2007)

Never Get Lost With This Compass Table

I’m not exactly sure what the point of this table made out of compasses is, other than the fact that it would be really fun to play with while drinking your morning coffee.  (Santa, if you’re reading this, sure…I’ll take one of these – why not?)

Mmmm…Toast as Art

Artist Maurice Bennett combines his love of toast with a blow torch to create stunning pieces that make my mouth water.  These are some of my favorites:
