The Magic Highway Of The Retro-Future
Back in 1958, Americans had an exuberantly optimistic view of the future…jet packs, robots, dinner with the “Jetsons”. This video, “Magic Highway USA” is taken from the Disneyland TV show, and features some of the lofty dreams we had about driving, commuting, and vacationing in the future. Some predictions actually did come true, like car rearview video cameras, but others were way too ambitious, like auto-piloted cars controlled by flimsy paper punchcards. Sit back and enjoy some retro-futurist kitsch:

Tube Time Capsule Discovered In London
Fire up the DeLorean…while renovating Notting Hill tube station in London, construction workers uncovered a passageway that had been sealed off for over 50 years…the original advertising posters on the walls were still hanging up in relatively good condition. Have a look:

A Fun Way To Fry Your Brain!
This hypnotizing animation consists of 7 minutes of retro pop-culture characters morphing into each other to the beat of a trippy soundtrack. Huh? Just watch it…sure, it’ll probably give you nightmares for the next week or so, but it’s absolutely worth it.

Take A Mind-Trip Down Memory Lane
Jacksonville based artist James Hance says his paintings scream out, “Childhood! It was amazing! I want it forever please!”. The mind-bending juxtapositions he creates feel perfect – you just know that if Hendrix was alive today he’d be rocking a high score on “Guitar Hero”. These are some of my favorites from James’ collection:
—
“The Man & The Man of Steel”

—
“Doozers Raising The Flag On Iwo Jima”

—
“Alice – A Suitable Case For Treatment”

—
“Bert & Ernie (Picasso Style)

Be sure to check out more of James’ amazing work on Artbreak. Many of his pieces are still for sale…
