Naughty Librarians Do It Right

Two Michigan librarians named Mary & Holly have created an amazing site called Awful Library Books.  It’s exactly what it sounds like – a collection of some of the strangest, creepiest, and most politically incorrect books they’ve discovered on their shelves.  These are some of my favorites:

dog hair

baton twirling

daddy

love your teenager
(Ew…)

Do “You” Really “Need” Those “Quotation Marks”?

This website is an oldie but definitely a goodie – Unnecessary Quotes spotlights signs and posters from around the world that have been attacked by extra quotation marks. Sometimes the unintended meanings of overzealous punctuation can be hilarious. These are some of my “favorites” from the site:

Quotes1
In today’s economy, it’s probably not a good idea for Arby’s to be so condescending to their customers.

quote2
Ocean City’s tourism board needs a confidence-boost.

quote3
The extra putter that was lying around in the Sheraton office must be incredibly crappy.

Quote4
Self-explanatory…

quote5
Wait…is it or is it not for sale? I’m confused…

quote6
Creepy…

quote7
That bag has been sitting there for 8 months.

quote8
Get your mind out of the gutter…perv.

quote8
Insert obligatory Chastity/Chaz Bono joke here.

Don’t Judge My Hair!

My new favorite site is Don’t Judge My Hair.  From mullets, to mohawks, to bad dye jobs, to outrageous afros, this site mocks celebrates some of the craziest hairstyles I’ve ever seen.  It’s true what they say:  one man’s ‘good hair day’ is another man’s DISASTER.  Take a deep breath…these are some of my favorite pics from the site -

Geeky + Cute + Animals = Animals With Lightsabers

It’s been a while since I’ve done a gratuitous-cute-animal-post.  First, there was the scandalous sex tape involving two naughty turtles.  Then, who could forget those fun-loving party animals, the Alcoholic Vervet Monkeys.  Now, it’s time to meet…Animals With Lightsabers!  Yup, there a site for that.  These are some of my favorites:

Old People Say The Darndest Things

Old people have an uncanny way of cutting through all the bull and telling it like it is. Actor and writer Seth Menachem’s blog, Life Advice From Old People, is a perfect example. Seth tracks down talkative seniors (both familiar to him and also complete strangers) and asks them to share some life lessons. He also writes short profiles about their lives which help enhance the interviews. Funny, poignant, and heartwarming.  If you’re lucky enough to still have your Grandparents around, give them a call today.

Photofunia.com – Look Ma, I’m Overexposed!

Want to see your face plastered up on a billboard in Taipei?   What would it look like to see one of the most famous celebrities in the world with a tattoo of your face?  Uploading photos of yourself and your friends to a site that then creates images, e-cards, and animated films starring you (ie JibJab) is nothing new – and who can forget the original Office Max “Elf Yourself” campaign from a few years ago?

But the static photos and simple animations that Photofunia generates from your images are at a higher quality than I’ve seen before.  And to be honest, those more involved animated films from companies like JibJab, while absolutely fun and entertaining, are sometimes a bit too long.  Photofunia images are professionally manipulated (the shading and effects are top-notch), and easy to create…with everything online lately getting quicker and shorter 140 characters at a time, these images do the trick.

Check these out – the dress isn’t on sale yet….sorry ladies.

Thanks for the tip, Matty
